Mount Carmel Health System is opening its first new urgent care center under a nationwide joint venture its parent organization entered one year ago.

Premier Health operates the clinic under Mount Carmel’s brand; it’s set to open March 31 at 4965 North Hamilton Road in far northeast Columbus, near Gahanna and New Albany. Michigan-based Trinity Health acquired a majority stake in the physician-led Louisiana operator in March 2021.
The company already had assumed operation of existing Mount Carmel urgent cares in Grove City and near Mount Carmel East hospital in Columbus. Initial plans called for adding two new sites in Central Ohio, if not more.

Premier took over 20 existing Trinity clinics overall last year with plans to add 30 to 40 new sites over the next few years under the local brands of Roman Catholic member systems in 22 states, at an average investment of $1 million each, according to a Trinity investor presentation in 2021. The company is not related to the Dayton hospital system of the same name. The new Mount Carmel location was formerly a Panera Bread. Building permits for the conversion were issued this past fall. Walk-in hours for patients 3 months and older will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends. Services include Covid-19 testing along with the usual lineup of treating cold and flu symptoms, minor cuts, sprains, broken bones and digestive distress. The site is about evenly spaced between Mount Carmel’s East and St. Ann’s hospitals, and its specialty orthopedic and neurosurgery hospital in New Albany.
